Prof. Umamahesh graduated from the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. At the law school, he was conferred numerous legal accolades including the Chancellor's Gold Medal awarded by Justice A.K. Sikri for Best Overall Performance in B.A. LL.B (Hons.) program and KTS Tulsi Gold Medal for Criminal Procedure Code. He was given the Young Achiever Award by Rotary Club, Chikamagalur, Karnataka.
Later he obtained a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Oxford. In 2016, he was awarded the British Chevening Scholarship to study LL.M. in Computer and Communications Law at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). Currently, he is pursuing a doctoral degree from National Law School of India University. He has co-authored a chapter in “Text Book of Public International Law” and has published in various journals. The most recent is a research paper co-authored with Professor Chris Reed titled ‘Beyond BitCoin – legal impurities and off-chain assets’ in International Journal of Law and Information Technology, Oxford University Press 2018.
Prof. Umamahesh worked as a Research Assistant to Professor Chris Reed at QMUL in the Microsoft Cloud Computing Research Centre, and collaborated in the Cloud Legal Project, Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London and the Computer Laboratory, University of Cambridge. He has also worked as a Legal Research Assistant with the Centre for Child and Law at NLSIU, Bangalore, in a project funded by Child Relief and You (CRY) and Tata Trusts.
Prof. Umamahesh has worked as a Partner in the law offices of Acharya and Haranahalli, Karnataka. He was involved in advising Companies, Government Organisations, and PSU’s and has assisted Senior Advocate Sri. Ashok Haranahalli. Prior to joining the ﬁrm, he was a Law Trainee under Justice D.K Jain, Judge, Supreme Court of India. He was an Adjunct Faculty at the School of Law, Christ University and visiting faculty at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, and National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam.
